Tie Dye Fashion Tips and Tricks

Step 1: Pick Your Materials.

Step 2: Fold and Tie Your Garment.

Step 3: Mix The Dyes.

Do not inhale the dye powder. Then shake vigorously until the dye is completely dissolved. You could pre-soak the fabrics in a solution of water and bicarbonate for fifteen minutes to an hour to help make sure the dye remains on and avoid color bleeding.

Step 4: Applying the Dye.

Soak or rinse your fabric in warm water and squeeze it out so it isn’t dripping before you fold and dye it. The dye will soak in more quickly if the fabric is wet. Wear gloves and pour the dye directly into the garment. Keep examining it to see if it has dissolved into the creases. Squeeze the region where the dye was applied to get it into the folds. Wrap the dyed cloth in a plastic bag to lock the moisture in, and keep it in the plastic bag for 12 to 24 hours.

Step 5: Rinse Until the Water is Clear.

Remove all the rubber bands carefully, make sure you don’t rip your fabric. Hand-rinse in cold water before you wash in the machine. Rinsing in cold water will remove excess color, then in the hottest water possible, clean any residual dye until the water becomes clear. After that, wash in the washing machine. For the first several washes, clean and dry separately.
